D/O.61 - Robert Eadie

Sydney artist Robert Eadie has been practicing for over sixty years, across multiple mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking. After studying at the National Art School as a night student in the 1950s he became a full time student in the 1960s and went on to become Head of Drawing and Painting in 1985. In addition to over eighteen solo exhibitions and countless group shows, Robert is a twelve time finalist in the Archibald prize and has placed multiple times in the Wynne and Sulman prizes.

After recovering from a stroke in 1989, Robert turned from large scale to small scale works, often focusing on local sights such as Centennial Park and the Northern Beaches. While his smaller drawings had once been used as sketches and studies for larger works, he now focuses on giving the smaller works their own substance and significance. Multiple drawings and paintings, often centred around the same subject, then begin to come together as storyline, turning the smaller works into a larger holistic vision.

Disorder Gallery is proud to be presenting an array of Robert's work, including a large piece inspired by the Narabeen Storm, which is comprised of twenty seven small works on the subject. We hope to bring a bit of Robert's Darlinghurst studio into the gallery space, offering visitors an insight into his process of letting each piece build upon the other to create a unique story.
