Bullseye (on Democracy) Lars Magnus Holmgren 2021

Back exhibiting together for the first time since the lockdown hiatus, Grace Hughes & Lars Magnus Holmgren present Ecstasy & Distinction, a mixed media event featuring painting, photography, digitally enhanced photo-montage and film.

Ecstasy & Distinction (in the face of extinction) represents a body of works formed within the socio-political, high drama, meltdown miasma of the pandemic lockdown, where we were all preached to like helpless puppies via a disturbing theatrical junk soap opera cast of news reporters, politicians, medical, military and law enforcement officials, then spat out the other end, after an out of key encore post the main act, of the facing global crisis to try to make sense of our part in society at large, once again.

Grace will be exhibiting her art celebrating life deconstructed as a means of emotional catharsis, from subversive and overt themes, finding liberation via the deeply immersive creative process. With this show she continues to utilise her design, photographic eye and visual art expertise.

Lars includes film geared photo-montage, delving into food-for-thought, poking at media hype and social media misinformation relative to the pandemic, dialled up to '11', as a collective projectile vomit of so much spam (spamdemic), which gave rise to a growing festering collective 'group think' conformity of our digital era paradigm, targeted threats (bullseye) to democracy and civil liberties. His work also explores a more liberating esoteric ground of shamanic dance in a modern, yet timeless, context, as a call to wake up to the global environmental crisis and to connect deeply and intuitively with mother nature again. There is no sanctuary believing in 'the natural order of things', yet the ecstatic dance of destiny can carry us forth in united rhythmic solace. All our conceptual dogma can be liberated via this dance of primal life-force that courses through our veins, as the wild pulse of infinite potential.

Dancer Of Destiny Lars Magnus Holmgren 2020

Lars has been predominantly immersed in the realm of VFX (Visual Effects), motion media, and animation over the years, including directing several short films. He also enjoys ‘jamming’ musically (having played in bands), performance art, painting, illustration and photography, with a bias to photo-montage utilising his VFX savvy.

Grace draws from several decades of expertise in design and fine art including painting, drawing, illustration, photography, film making and direction. Her keen eye for design has been a hallmark for her approach to creating her body of works.
