ALAN ROSE - TILINGS

alan.rose.tilings

Alan Rose presents new works informed by a mathematical/geometric construct called Penrose Tiling, or aperiodic tiling, which is a method of completely covering a surface with only two shapes, whilst not allowing repetitive patterns.

What appears at first to be randomly placed tiles, also has the hint of patterns forming and of some order, akin to Escher’s drawings, which encourage the viewer to decipher a logic which doesn’t actually exist.

The overall effect may be to suggest bats or swallows or boxes or steps  - whatever is conjured up. For this reason, no descriptive names have been added.

See the works and conjure up your own viewing experience at Disorder Gallery.

Enrico Soekarno’s “Something Must Break, two ways to choose on a razor's edge” is just one of the amazing drawings inspired by listening to Joy Division while Enrico created his work for Red/Sid - Disorder

Alan Rose graduated from NAS in 2009, and has built a sculpture practice based on 3-dimensional geometry and repetition, which has connections with the op-art, kinetic art and the conceptual art of the 1960s. The intention is to create in the viewer a feeling of disorientation, somewhere between chaos and order, and thereby encourage a closer inspection of the work.

You can meet Alan and chat with him about the inspirations behind and methods that go into his signature geometric works during our "Meet the Artist” events below.
