Jepsi's wok on canvas

“I’ve been making stickers and slapping them up since 2019 but have been drawing and doodling ever since I can remember. My character, which I guess you could call ‘Jepsi’,  is an unconscious mash up of my favourite cartoon characters, as well as my own drawings as a kid. Pretty much every sticker or graffiti artist that has influenced me in some way has a sticker up on one of the road signs hung in the show. This character is a slowly arrived at motif which has allowed me enormous freedom to explore different themes, colours and fills.

The thick lines that ‘Jepsi’ is made up of actually came out of me obsessively trying to draw the cleanest possible lines. I would make a tiny mistake but the lines just kept getting thicker and thicker as I tried to correct them until I started to thicken them on purpose. This was at the same time that I was just beginning to put up my stickers and I found that the thick lines also helped spot them from afar.

At First I only drew my character in black and white until I found other artists that did sticker collabs on Instagram. Slowly entering that subculture has had a massive impact on my work. Every collab is vastly different and usually very colourful. When doing collabs, matching the theme and colour schemes with all of the other characters is always an exciting challenge. However, I still only get black and white stickers printed since colours fade when outside overtime. So I’m still sticking to my roots!”
